Nice showday for Anna

Yesterday we had a very nice showday in Belgium at the Specialty show of the Belgian Borzoi Club, Anna became excl, 2 in championclass by judge ms Lyn Hewson from the UK

The wheater was not that great, but we where very lucky that when we had to go into the ring it was not too wet.

Throwback Thursday, WDS 2010

The World dog show in Amsterdam is over now for over a month,  and I started thinking of the first time I ever traveled to a World dog show.
It was held in Herning Denmark in 2010.
I never had the idea of having a change to be on such a big show, but I really wanted to go to a show like that, if it was only so I could say "I went to a worldshow ones"

So there we went. In a stationcar, we didn't have our mobile home back then, a little tent and 2 dogs.
Star (nr 1) and Scarlett. Where we lucky that the wheater was so nice, we never tought of rain, we just went to Denmark with showstuff a tent and the dogs.
We drove by evening and night and came to the place of Ry in the middle of the night, so we decided it was not a great plan to go set up the tent, and we just slept in the car. Besides a beautifull lake just a little driving from the show.
Next morning we where really hurt and sore ofcourse, sleeping in a car is not the best thing to do.
But it was really a beautifull place to wake up and walk the dogs.

Our judge for the girls was Ulla Berg Person, and Scarlett went on for excellent, and Star became placed second. That was pretty cool, we never had the idea we could stand any change against the other dogs. And also that we came across so many nice people with great looking dogs, those big shows are great for meating new people.
At the end of the day all nrs 1 and 2 of all classes where to come back in the ring, and Star got the grade of 4th best of the show. I still don't get that system, but I was happy.

When judging was over we drove to Herning where all the real action would take place.
We came there on the campsite and first we did was setting up our tent. That was a big pain in the bud, because the dogs where happy and being active and that is not very handy when you are not the best person when putting up a tent. We made it, and afterwards we walked the dogs, as soon as we came back we went to sleep. I don't think I ever have been soo tired in my whole life.

Next morning everything was wet...... there was this amazing fog, so clothes where wet, the dogs, well there was nothing dry anymore, so that was a strange start of the day. We got a quick as we could to the showcentre so we could dry ourselves and the stuff, But that for was amazing for the dogs, they looked wonderfull with their moist coat.

I never saw such an amazing show hall, it was big and a lot of space, and there where grooming areas where you could set up your stuff. I was so short in the sport that I still was a little afraid of big names of kennels and handlers, and I saw that championclass was the first class to come up.

And there I was with Star, and all the collies with the big names in this class. The judge was mr Thomas Rolin, and he awarded Star with an excellent 1!!!!!! OMG she won championclass, I was over the moon, she just beat some dogs with the big names.
And after a long wait it was time for Scarlett, the group was about 30 so it had to be split up.
Scarlett was then in youthclass, and still from time to time very jumpy, but she did great. And in the end she got excellent and was within the last 6 in the line up.

It was a very long wait again for Star to go in the ring again for CACIB, she didn't make it, but that was ok. There where so many beautifull dogs, that I was superproud of what we achieved, we where there Herning 2010 we did it, and had fun.
We made alot of new friends on that show, and we learned alot about our breed, for me most of the WDS shows are for the social event, talking about the breed, meeting new people.

So that was a part of my WDS story, I will try and make more of these, because we did so many shows and I have so many nice memories.

Seminars at American collie club germany

We find that education is very important, even if we did a lot of seminars and workshops, there is always something new to learn.
Last week a day before the specialty show in Germany we got the opportunity to go to 3 seminars in one day.

I think for me the first and last where the most important.
The first one was by dr Vet. David Hansen from the USA, he has his own vet, dentist clinic. And the lecture was about teeth developtment, and teeth care, again it made me realize how important it is to brush the teeth of the dogs.  You can prevent so many nasty problems as heart failure or kidney failure just to name some.

Later that day we had a handling seminar, I know a lot about handling but even I learned new stuff. And it was pretty nice I got to be the person to demo the showprocedure with a strange dog, so that was a nice challenge for me too.

The end of the day we enjoyed company with some nice food, and we had a lecture on raising puppies. Given by ms Krista Hansen USA.
I know we do alot with our puppies to comfort them and making sure they are stabile and happy when they move to their new owners, but this was also very entertaining and we learned so much.

It is amazingly tiring to participate in all 3 seminars but I'm happy that I got the change to do them.
Even when you sometimes think you don't learn, you probably will always learn something.
